  1. Just started talking to 2 girls in front of me at the 7-11 at my condo. Ages 20, 22. Friendly chat, even though they knew I was flirting a bit. I told the 20 year old she looked like a trouble maker because of her tattoos. Good girls with tattoos.. never saw that here in the 80’s. Even the bad girls.

  2. The best things my wife did for me before we came back and retired here was to tell me everything that I shouldn’t do. The people are great but there are a few things that will turn one against you. Keeping face is really really important, even some of the hand gestures ( not vulgar) that mean one thing in the states can be taken as an insult here. Also never get upset at the pace of work being done, no matter what it is. Luckily I have never faced anything to that extent, but just knowing was a help. I love living here and the people are great. Just wanted to let you know that there are a few things to be aware of.

  3. …..That’s a wonderful characteristic to have in the whole culture, friendliness….You have that in the USA in the Deep South to a certain extent…

  4. You’re right on the Filipino time, still happening and also whenever we’re home there I ended up driving , the defensive style😀thanks for understanding the situations👍take care🙏noticed the rainy days season, can’t stand the mugginess and the sweating of the walls specially the tiles🤓

  5. “I would love to be the emperor of the wolrd…and change a lot of things”…
2:54 This girl is not camera shy! 🙂
Rod, you started laughing just by saying “Texting and Selfies”! I heard that some filipinas don’t like talking on the phone with friends around, cause they will know right away she is talking to a foreigner if she talks in English… Great points here. Ty Rod!

  6. Really glad you recognize that you don’t want to change the place. Having been living in both Philippines and another country for the past 15 years or so, I’ve always reminded myself that if the Philippines changed and was more like my home country, then why would I go there? There are a lot of frustrating things about the Philippines, but the good outweighs the bad. Next time you’re waiting to place your order at a restaurant and the waiter or waitress seems to have forgotten they are at work, just remember the fast paced life you left behind and enjoy the waiting.

  7. Good advice as always Rod, it sure helps to adopt the positive Filipino attitude, and focus on the positive rather than the negative. Enjoyable video, thanks for sharing, and keep well.

  8. A neighborhood bar is the best. That is after your accepted. I’ve heard you do not want to go into a Filipino bar by yourself. Meaning that’s where the Filipinos go to drink.
