  1. hi joe.hope you and your girl are doing fine.just be carefull with this virous going around.havent heard of any cases here in the south, but be vigulent.most of my family here do have symtoms but hope its just normal cold stuff.just be safe and take care

  2. HEY JOE AND GIFT, SO GLAD TO SEE YOU BOTH WEARING A MASK. I JUST GOT AHOLD OF MY LADY DOCTOR FRIEND IN BANGKOK AND TALKED WITH HER ABOUT THE CORONAVIRUS. SHE TOLD ME IT’S A LITTLE WORSE THAN WHAT IS BEING SAID. JUST KEEP YOUR MASK ON AT ALL TIMES AND WASH YOUR HANDS AS OFTEN AS YOU CAN.

I ENJOYED YOUR INTERVIEW BUT I HAVE TO TELL YOU BOTH I BEAT YOU ON THE RETIREMENT AGE. I RETIRED FROM THE GOVERNMENT WHEN I WAS 44 YEARS OLD. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE WAS, IT WAS NOT BY CHOICE. I JUST COULDN’T FUNCTION ANY LONGER ON THE JOB AFTER MY FOURTH BACK SURGERY. IT WAS LIKE LIVING IN HELL EVERY DAY. EVEN FOUND MYSELF SETTING ON THE END OF THE BED WITH A GUN IN MY HEAD. NOT A GOOD WAY TO GO OUT. MUCH BETTER NOW. LOL

THAT HOTEL LOOKS ADEQUATE FOR A SHORT STAY BUT I USUALLY STAY AT A PLACE BY THE AIRPORT CALLED THE THONG TA RESORT. IT’S AROUND 1000 BAHT WITH AN OK BREAKFAST. THE GOOD THING IS IT HAS A FREE SHUTTLE TO THE AIRPORT IF YOU ARE FLYING OUT OR FLYING IN. THAT’S BASICALLY THE ONLY TIME I COME TO BANGKOK. THERE’S JUST TOO MANY PEOPLE. I DON’T LIKE CROWDS. LOL

    1. 555—Yes Brent-My Name is Randy and My Lovely Lady’s Family Nick name is Boom,,,, Her Real Name you could not pronounce 555,,I also met a lady with the name ==PORN,, I was telling My g/f what Boom Boom means to Americans and I said MY name can mean other things also–she said ‘I have been laughing at your name for 5 minutes already ,Best wishes -Randy + Boom

  3. Looks like a good location , were staying in Soi 24 for a few nights in a weeks time @Compass Skyview Hotel , looking forward to it . We normally stay Silom area. πŸ˜ƒ

  4. Hi like your video and information hotel looks good for two nights going to Australia in October maybe stopover in Bangkok ..give. My love to Gift πŸ’ƒπŸ»πŸ’ƒπŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‡³πŸ‡±

  5. Hi Gift, hi Joe. I’ve been enjoying your videos for a while now, thank you!

How much longer will you guys be in Bangkok? I’m hoping to meet you both before you move.

I’m planning to try and get a Thai driving license soon and buy a vehicle, I also want to move out of the city. Joe, did you have to take a written test or does the international driving permit qualify? Did you study Thai driving laws road signs etc. before you started driving here? I’m really apprehensive about driving in Bangkok but I’m going a little stir-crazy.

Thanks again, my best to you both.

    1. Just a few more weeks my friend. There is no written test. I goggled the road signs but realized that they are almost the same as in Europe, where I lived for 30 years. You will quickly adjust to driving in Bangkok, just remember you always have to be aware of your surroundings. All the best!

    1. We are moving in just a couple more weeks my friend.. We will always come back to Bangkok for a few days a month when we are not traveling elsewhere. I love Bangkok. All the best!

  6. I can take my government pension in 25 days! I’ll be 55. Quite tempting. You have to take a hit – an actuarial reduction. That means you break even at 82. Live longer and they’re winning. But, on the other hand, money when you’re 55 is probably a lot more useful than money when you’re 83. Having a nice cup of tea and watching the news isn’t going to cost much!

    1. @Foreigner Joe Indeed! Will I care that the British government is marginally winning when I’m 83? I’ll have had five yeas 55-60, which might be a lot more valuable than another Β£3,000 a year when I’m 83!

    2. LOL! Sorry my friend. I met the (MRA) minimum Retirement Age plus years of service. No reduction for me. I would say, if you have the funds to support your lifestyle and you are eligible to retire, do it. Life is unpredictable so enjoy each day when you can. All the best!

  7. With traffic what it is….it is all about location in staying anywhere in BKK. Nice find. BUT, it is not a complete review until Gift jumps on the bed to give the mattress her approval!

  8. I almost died in Bangkok!!! I ate some Subway at the Phuket airport and hopped on a plane to Bangkok. That night I was dying. The next day my wife got me some pills to stop me going to the toilet every 5 minutes. Damn I learned my lesson on that one!!!

    1. @Michael Morris I won’t eat street food. I only eat at the food courts. 45-65 baht and the they are clean, so I don’t have to worry about food poisoning!

  9. I had the chance to work for a federal agency and get a federal pension but I passed on it for higher paying opportunities in the private sector. Everything worked out but I sometimes regret that choice because I have no fail safe other than my own investments. Riches can vanish but if you have the same pension and health care the US Senate and even President of the USA has it’ll endure whatever the economic tides bring. You and your Homeland Security buddy Jim made great career choices that’ll provide well deserved security the rest of your lives.

  10. Hey Joe, prior to my ex destroying my financial situation, I stayed in some of the top hotels in Europe (The Flora on Via Veneto in Rome, the Hiltons, the Marriotts, etc) because that is what she demanded. Well, compared to my rack aboard the USS Gettysburg (shipmates/roommates included), that room is quite a bargain. Afterall, I do not plan to visit Thailand & Bangkok to sleep! Thanks for the info and, please, wear the NY Yankee Hat! If you visit Hoboken, please let me know. All the Best from NYC, GUY PS: Did the room have a Safe/Security Box?

    1. Sorry to hear about your ex destroying your finances. I for sure will look you up next time I’m in Hoboken. If I remember correctly the room did have a safe. All the best!

  11. Perfect hotel for the price for someone who just wants a place to crash. Not for me personally but for a budget conscious traveller it’s a great option.

  12. personally you cant go wrong with these small hotels in BKK if you staying for 2/3 night enjoying the city a good favourite one of mine is called White House Asoke , enjoy your content Joe …korp koon kap

  13. NICE Video Joe ,,It was a Pleasure to meet you two and Gift is a wonderful person,, The room was very suitable ,,I did find a torn sheet and the maid hid it by placing the rip at the bottom of the bed I noticed it when I hooked My toe in it a ripped it the rest of the way,, The staff were Very nice to us and let us store our bags in the lobby for 6 hrs after check out while we went shopping to kill time before my flight out ,, OH yea Key security deposit 1000BHT,, The Stores around the area are really HI end ,,Boom was happy to eat in the restaurants and we found the Gourmet food store -Nice !! This place was easy from the BTS and I will stay there again for a night or two ! Thanks again ,,See you next trip,,Randy + Boom !

  14. Great video Joe. Would like more detail on your friends logistics. I am fed ready to retire soon and want to do exactly what he is doing. Thanks

  15. I think you friend Jim has the right idea. Rotate around personally after a few months I get bored with a place and still like to be in US or a bit(just long enough to realize how expensive it is lol). You guys have no idea how good it is to have worldwide insurance you get from bcbs.

  16. Joe, My wife and I stayed on Soi 18 Park Plaza close to Terminal 21 last August, and it was expensive. We did a lot of walking and walked up to Soi 48 to see stuff. I wish we had known that this Hotel Nantra was there for just $22 per night as we stayed in Bangkok for just about 4 nites only. We could have saved a lot of money. We pretty much had the same space in a Singapore Hotel and it was like $120 per nite. Small Rooms…but, very modern looking and modern amenities and downtown to everything. Maybe if we make another trip to Bangkok, We’ll will opt to stay here for $22 per nite. Especially if it’s just for a few nites. Thanks Joe for your insight and good infor. Hope U and Gift are well. Stay Safe, Stay Healthy & Stay Blessed!

  17. Stopped there about four years ago and my room was actually bigger in size than your friend Randy’s, was quite a nice room too and cheap as you say. You can actually reach the hotel via a sub soi from the main road which you passed before reaching soi 39, the sub soi livens up at night with a really good inexpensive street food restaurant. Just checked on the map, the sub soi is actually soi 37.πŸ˜€πŸ˜…πŸ‘

  18. Well you cant go wrong with that for the price clean small but modern and acceptable if there is just you or two of you when i met my wife to go get married we stopped at Sasha house we got a good deal with the room as we stopped for two months and it was very large and very plush we liked it a lot i think we paid about 4000 baht for 2 moths but well worth it glad to see your both o.k happy travels soon.

  19. Sorry just spotted my mistake i was rushing Sasha house was 40000 for 2 months very much looking forward to seeing new adventures seeing as i am stuck in U.K with rainy days with kids and wife and this time of year we would all be better in Thailand.

  20. I stayed there before and it was fine. I got in at like 2 AM so I was looking for a cheap place and then the next 4 days I upgraded to a Full service Hotel. I’ve found some good Hotel deals in BKK the last 6 months

  21. Surprised that it’s $22.πŸ’΅πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈperπŸŒƒ night; looked like it was worth $100.00 INSTEAD; I’ll be there in a year or 15months(10:00+min.πŸŽžοΈβ¬…οΈπŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸ’»πŸœοΈπŸ‘ after I visit NEARBY neighbor—Texas β¬…οΈπŸ™πŸœοΈπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
