  2. I know that medical tourism is a thing in Manilla so excellent health care exists, but it seems the infrastructure is very fragmented around the country. Some solutions like becoming a member, like at ACE Hospital are good ideas, but only if you live there. As I get ollder this becomes more of an issue. I would like to live in a province area, but as you point out, its risky!

  3. Cheers Gio. This definitely is something people need to think about. If it is an issue then a person may have to reside close to a hospital as a base and forgo the ‘idealized’ location.

  4. Thanks Gio, good info.. I will be 70 in 2 weeks, but lucky no medication or health issues.. this is definately something i think about.. but will be there as soon as i can to be with Lyn in Ormoc. They have a Doctors Hospital there which seems OK?

  5. Very important vlog Gio, a wake up call for everyone living in Sth East Asia or for those of us intending to move there soon..👏😀
Good to hear you and Ging are ok 👍
    Thanks again 😀😀

  6. I told U about it but for the sake of your viewers when U were just getting home from your accident when my GFs 8 mo. old granddaughter went into convolutions. Her daughter and then she called an ambulance. They said they could not come & told the daughter to get her there best she could. He other finally took her. When the baby’s mother and my GF tried to go in they wouldn’t let them because of the virus. The mother didn’t get to see her baby until they released her 4 days later. I know if I had a heart attack, I would be dead meat.

  7. Foreigners don’t come to the Philippines to study medicine…. if you have a major medical event here your probably going to die. if you can get to a airport the 24 hour flight to the U.S. is faster than a Philippine ER

  8. Reekay one time had a vlog statiing that the Philippines is not a third world country, he said the Philippines is a developing country, but when you spend a year here and learn more about the Philippines like health care and the way the government runs this place. You realize it is definitely a third world country. I been here a year already. In angeles city pampanga

  9. Good video and give people a few things to think about…
    Take a look inside a few ambulances….
Especially OUTSIDE the cities……Not much inside..
The general rule is someone grabs a jeepney or motor trike or whatever is handy and gets you to a hospital…
For my accident a passerby with a pick up asked if he could help….I said sure thing..
I was bleeding bad but no breaks…
I mentioned a hospital and my bike was in the back with me and away we went..
I had cash on me BUT was not asked anything until I was discharged a few hours later..
Total cost in ER with stitches bandages xrays etc was P3000..
I paid the guy P1000 to take my bike home and alert family but he handed the money to them and said NO CHARGE……..He didn”t even leave his name..

  10. I decided to retire in Tagaytay because it’s only two hours away from Manila. Tagaytay has two hospitals near my house so in an emergency, I can go to either one and if I require major surgery I can be transferred by ambulance to St. Luke’s where I have had surgeries with issues for my back, heart, and a kidney transplant. I have insurance coverage but it is good for 6 months in the PI so I have to leave and get back so my insurance will be valid for another 6 months. It’s a good thing I live on Guam and it’s only a 3hrs and 45 min flight to Manila. I think Tagaytay has the next coolest weather after Baguio. I was originally thinking Baguio as a retirement place but it has become over-crowded and it’s too far from Manila where the best hospitals are. The only thing about Tagaytay is that it gets crowded on weekends and holidays when people from the city go there to beat the heat in the city. Other than that I find that Tagaytay is the best place for retirement. I will not ride a trike or a bike unless I have to, because too many people die in bike accidents. That’s why I have a car and if I’m no longer able to drive by myself, I’ll just hire a driver which only costs $10 a day.

  11. Finally someone addressed this subject. Important information to know for anyone that is older and considering moving to the Philippines. Well done….

  12. If you have health issues the big cities are the only safe choices for you. The provinces are a death sentence because there are no paramedics. They toss you in the back of the ambulance, after waiting up to an hour, and run for the hospital.

  13. Excellent video. That’s why I suggest Island hopping. Stay in a city that has a good hospital and Island hop. The flights with in the Philippines itself are quite responsible.

  14. Hi Gio. This is a good topic I live in Michigan my girlfriend lives in Dumaguete and her brother-in-law got bit by a snake in the Bayawan province and so they took him to the hospital there and they had no anti-venom so there was the ambulance that took him to do it got there and they had no anti-venom but said they would order it from Subaru well it never came they didn’t give him strong anabiotic‘s he was in a coma in ICU for about six or seven days they would not see him unless we coughed up $300 on the spot luckily I keep my girlfriend well supplied with money I think it cost me Close to $2000 which is not bad for all the time he was in ICU he survived and is doing great but you need to have a supply of money on hand for emergencies like that and I only met him once but I saved his life I was not gonna let him die at the hospital. The doctor told him he was lucky because two patients died and another one lost his leg and another one was paralyzed but what do you expect if they don’t have anti-venom I think God‘s hand was on this young man he’s about 30 years old.

  15. Gio you don’t have to be in your 60s, you can also be in your 40s also. Everyone should be mindful of the hospital care prior to moving to the Philippines.

  16. Hi Gio. I’m in good old Michigan USA for the moment. Even here medicine is no guarantee of more life. My wife had cancer and died at 51, just like your example. Her younger sister had the same cancer and died at 44. I’ve been thinking about that since 2011 when it all started. I guess I realize that none of us get out of here alive. We have to die of something. Just enjoy the present. Peace ✌️

  17. A good topic indeed and for anyone, especially retirees, proximity to Healthcare is important. Glad to hear that you and Ging are ok otherwise. I wrecked a few years back on my motorcycle (bounced off a guardrail, over the handle bars and slide on the side of my helmet for about 10 feet) and miraculously just came out of it with a cut on the knee, bruises and a limp for about 2 weeks. (I credit that to motorcycle gear – full face helmet, jacket, gloves, boots) I was on a back road in Berks County, PA and while I didn’t need an ambulance, the tow truck that dispatched got lost and took well over an hour to find me. Fortunate to be able to think about it to avoid a next time. Thanks for topic and sharing! EW 🙂

  18. Good info.. good advise… can you please provide specifics… “qualify and quantify”… what are some of the cost associated with hospital care… and it is my understanding that different hospitals offer “care package” or insurance if you go to their facilities… any info on that? And do I need a local contact to source medical needs.. such as needles and string for stitches when in the provincial areas?
