  2. it seems the Philippines somewhat like Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam (the only ones I have watched) are struggling to find ways to again suck money from foreigners, as always, but are all making ridiculous requirements for entry especially for long term desirable visitors. Cambodia’s $3000USD on arrival fee an example. Thailand’s high value visitors are expected to pay a premium air fare to BKK, go through entry checks for health, wear stupid plastic “raincoats”, get luggage sprayed, quarantined like a prisoner in a hotel room arbited by government as to which hotel, pay 10 times the price for 2 meals a day during quarantine, then have to stay 90 days. Doesn’t seem like the sort of vacation that appeals to me.

  3. I’m fortunate to be married to a balikbayan Filipina, born here. No financial investment required; all we really paid was something like $1200 or so a one-time fee (Philippine Retirement Authority). Brother-in-law bought a condo to cover his financial requirement.

  4. Few are going to be interested in the Philippines “retirement” visa. The bank deposit requirement is a deal killer. Most of us will be living on a rolling tourist visa. The so-called “retirement” visa is an inferior product and out of reach for most of us.

  5. Yes I’m coming down in three months to marry my bride to be and then wait in a long long time for us. And then while we’re going to live down there in the PhilippinesπŸ‡΅πŸ‡

  6. When do you think you will be moving? Do you know how many hoops you will have to jump through to enter another country? I know you are going to video your experience and I am looking forward to it..I know you will be back and that’s good because I want to meet you when I arrive.. your videos have helped me so much and also paul’s videos.. thanks..I owe you all a good meal and night out on the town.. hello from south Louisiana πŸ˜‚πŸ‘πŸ‘ŒπŸ€—

  7. The days of the carefree expat living large and able to retire on a small pension and border runs are over and many countries are using Covid as an excuse to rid themselves of individuals they may consider undesirable. About 2-3 years ago Thailand started to strictly enforce financial, health insurance and other visa requirements and many of those who could not meet the requirements were forced to leave for nearby countries. Personally, I believe many of these countries were not happy about this and started to tighten up the requirements. Last March, after 12 years in Thailand I was actively looking for a retirement alternative and had a one year visa for Vietnam when they suddenly required you to leave the country every 30 days unless:. you were married to a Vietnamese, or had a valid job offer, or Invested a minimum of $140K US in a business. Bank accounts and driving licenses were also restricted which would make life difficult. Next, I obtained an agent in Malaysia which is the only country with a realistic retirement program in Asia but they had also just revised their requirements and I heard there was a possibility they would cancel the MM2H program. I met the higher financial requirements ($2500US) monthly and about $85K US in a bank but they had an issue with my “security” background. I was an aircraft mechanic for 4 years in the US Navy 53 years ago! WTF. Now the Philippines are moving the goalpost so I won’t even consider it anymore. Moral of this story is times are changing so don’t be in a hurry to cut your ties at home and move until this mess clears up.
